Co rrect me if I’m wrong, but I think the first-gen Colorado actually pioneered a prominent design feature that didn’t reach the mainstream until around ten years after its introduction: the DRLs and indicators are up at the top where “normal” headlights would go, while the actual headlights are positioned lower with a break in between. This can be seen in the Juke, pre-facelift Cherokee, the new Soul, and a few other cars and SUVs. The ‘Rado did it much more subtly, but still.
Yes, I'm aware that most Chevy trucks were and are like this, but I think the Colorado does it most closely to the cars of today.

Are there any other vehicles that have used amber DRLs?
Another interesting tidbit: For the 2006-2007 model years some Colorados had a different BCM program where the headlights are the DRLs.

I think so, but I can’t think of any examples right now.
And that's pretty neat. Does that mean they just had an extra bulb that did nothing, or were those the parking lights?

Probably Aztec. Too far ahead of its time for early 2000’s.

Could be, I cant remember if the 1st gen plastic cladding avalanches had the DRLs in the fog or on the top amber lights.
The grills are very similar between the two with the avalanche coming out first in 02. And actually before the angry eyes in 03

Nothing is different with the lights for all the years so it was just the low beam for the DRL. I assumed they were dimmed - not sure though.
